We recently collaborated with reXtore, a Singaporean start-up, to help develop STAXX, an innovative and eco-friendly building block system made from 100% Ocean Bound Plastic. From concept to completion, Ichiplas helped reXtore to bring STAXX to life. Our team handled the end-to-end process from initial design and prototyping to Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and final production, all at highly competitive costs.
Key Challenges and Solutions:
- High Load Requirements: The blocks needed to support heavy equipment like monitors and lighting. Our product design team developed various rib designs and conducted extensive load simulations to optimize material usage while maintaining strength.
- Cost-Effective Mold Design: To minimize costs, our mold designer created a single mold with multiple inserts for common block designs.
- Durability for Reuse: Together with reXtore, we rigorously tested and selected the best plastic materials to ensure the blocks could withstand repeated use.
- Handling Inconsistent Recycled Materials: Recycled plastics are typically a challenge for manufacturers due to variations in recycled plastic batches. Ichiplas had to closely collaborate with the material suppliers to accurately adjust manufacturing parameters for each batch.
- Meeting Tight Deadlines: Despite a challenging six-month timeline to deliver for the Singapore Fintech Festival in December 2024, our in-house capabilities and strong partner network ensured timely delivery.
